"Issue #24: Lost in a Haze"
Oh! What's that? Another POV? Yes, it's true! Rainhaze gets his turn in the narration. It was a lot of fun to explore his mind, though it's easy to over-write. Rainhaze is very rambly.
I also hope you enjoy getting a peek into Defiance's inner workings. I will elaborate a bit more on the branch system and hierarchy in some bonus posts eventually, but there's nothing outside the comic that's required for understanding it simply by reading the issues.
Since Rainhaze jumps around in time a lot via his scattered mental state, for ease of reading I'll just state that pages 5 & 6 take place directly after the end of Issue 24, i.e. when Rainhaze killed the fox and Ranger confronted him.

Teen Titans go! issue 24 Power Failure
writer - J Torres
pencils - Todd Nauck
inks - Lary Stucker
some commentary under the cut
The Titans exchange powers after fracturing the master of games’s amulet. Beast boy gains raven’s powers, starfire gets cyborg’s, raven get’s robin’s, and cyborg get’s beast boy’s.
This page in particular stuck with me because I find it interesting seeing beast boy grappling with rae’s powers. It lends insight into how her powers function. Up until reading this I always just thought that when rae loses control of her powers it damages things around her, I’d never thought it would have the effect it has on beast boy here. Making the user uncomfortable, physically ill, and anxious.
This also helps solidify the reasoning for raven withholding her powers throughout the show. As a kid i remember being frustrated with raven a lot in fight scenes because she always held back a lot (this is especially noticeable if you go back to season 1 after getting through the full series, especially season 4). Now I can understand that the uncontrollable use of her powers is not only dangerous for everyone but likely physically unpleasant for her.
Also it’s nice to see terra’s memory comforts bb despite it all. I’m fairly certain this issue takes place after the events of aftershock but i could be wrong.
unrelated comment, it struck me as weird that when the girls got the guys costumes they still had exposed legs and midriffs  (star’s version of cy’s suit not shown here) but when the guys got the girls costumes they usually ended up with full coverage or at least shorts in bb’s case). I consider it kind of a lazy/boring design choice in general but with star’s version of cy’s suit it was particularly unappealing.
note: i might upload a couple more pages out of context with commentary or at least explanations of why i posted them. not a lot though.

Why Jason really tried to kill Penguin (maybe).
Hot take over here.
Everyone was pissed with RHATO Rebirth #24 when Jason decides to go after Penguin and screw up his truce with the Batfam because the guy was responsible for putting his father in jail. Not even killing him, presumably Two-Face is still the guy who offed him I’m guessing? It doesn’t really matter. Anyway, Jason claims he’s angry at Cobblepot for setting Willis up as a fall guy for stuff he didn’t do and sending him to jail. Naturally Jason going righteous avenger for a guy he canonically kind of hated, even with some sad letters painting him as not completely awful, seems a bit much to fans and we hated it.
I posit however, that Jason wasn’t actually mad about what this frame-up did to his dad. I mean he was, but that wasn’t what set him off the deep end. Because his dad might not have done whatever Penguin framed him for but he was still a criminal and probably still deserved his sentence, he knows that much.
What Jason was really pissed about, was the fact that this frame-up had taken Jason’s father--a guy who might have been objectively awful but was still the main provider for the household and the only semi-reliable adult with his mother being an addict--away. This, in Jason’s eyes, directly resulted in Jason stepping into this role, a role which he sees himself as having failed at, since his mother ended up dying. When Jason’s father was alive, his mother was still alive. When Willis went away, Jason’s mother passed away soon after because Jason couldn’t adequately care for her. Never mind that none of that is Jason’s fault or that if his father was still around the result would probably have been the same, the point is that in Jason’s view, when his father was still around his mother had been okay.
Jason wasn’t mad at Penguin for taking away his father because he cared that much about his dad, he’s pissed that taking away his father resulted in his mother’s death.
And that is a reason good enough for him to want to kill Oswald Cobblepot, IMO.

Wanted to see if I’d improved in my art skills over the past few months, so I decided to doodle a Zim Zam! Kicking off spring break right by drawing invader-in-training Zim being a good little cadet. Not my favorite comic issue, but I just couldn’t resist drawing my favorite pint-sized Irken in his cute little purple uniform
